Puerto Angel Oaxaca is the perfect beach town for an exotic beach vacation. This quaint little town has everything you want out of a tropical getaway. That being said, this is a no-frills kind of town and basically a fishing village so you will not find high end amenities here.

You can see turtles swimming in their natural habitat at night, play with dolphins on day trips, and enjoy amazing seafood on the beach. Vacation rentals are especially nice because you can lounge around your villa, soaking up some rays until it’s time for cocktails by the ocean. Then maybe take a walk down the boardwalk in the early evening.

What Can I do There?

Once you cross over the bridge into the town , you’ll be in for a treat. The beaches here are wide and sandy, with amazing views of the ocean. At one end of the beach is an estuary where you can see turtles coming in to lay their eggs at night. You can take boat tours out onto the water to do some fishing or dolphin watching, which is pretty darn awesome!

Afterward, you can come back to your villa or hotel and soak up some rays on overlooking the sea. You could also go check out all of the local bars along the boardwalk if that’s more your speed.

You can walk from Playa Principal to Playa Panteon along the seawall which is pretty much the coolest thing to do. In between is a sweet little beach town where you can rent boogie boards, surfboards, and water bicycles.

There are plenty of day trip tours available if you’re looking for something more active than relaxation on your vacation. That being said, you would have to go outside the village for many of the tours. Maybe hit the jungle for a hike or spend the day learning about the ancient culture that has survived throughout history. Then come back to your vacation rental or hotel, take a dip in the pool, and enjoy dinner while watching the sunset over the ocean.

Heading south along Highway 200 will take you past some jungle-covered mountains to Zipolite which is a great place to spend a day or two relaxing on the beach. It’s pretty low-key here with local fishermen bringing in their catch every morning and some pretty nice waves for surfing. But you can also rent a board down there and take it easy if you’re not up to the challenge of big waves.

Taking a break from your everyday life and letting go at one of these lovely beaches is sometimes all you need to relax and recharge your batteries, whether we’re adults or kids.

This little beach town is beautiful year-round, but especially so during yearly events, which are always fun. There are lots of local activities going on here that reflect everything that makes this part of Mexico special.

Puerto Angel has the amenities you need that make it ideal for a long or short vacation, depending on your schedule. There are even some eco-friendly hotels.

For example, if you want something laid back, just head down to Playa Principal and enjoy the sun with your toes in the sand. You can also go swimming or surfing at Playa Panteon if that’s your kind of thing. You can also check out one of Puerto Angel’s many beaches and go kayaking in the bay or scuba diving if you want to explore a bit more or snorkeling in the coral reef. When you come back, why not take a nice dip in the pool?

Hello Shannon,

Is this accessible from La Vivienda Villa via taxi or bus? Is it a realistic daytrip? What about the bioluminescence tour that was advertised out of Puerto Escondido? Do I need to book ahead?

Thanks in advance

Shannon

Hi Sandi
If you are wanting to go to Puerto Angel it’s about an hour away and you can take a taxi. Puerto Escondido is another town which is 2 hours away. There are various tours so not quite sure which one you are interested in? You can email me directly with the one you are interested in and I can let you know.
